No Title (Room) was performed over two days in October of 1998. The performance took place inside an eight by eight by eight foot box. Viewers could see the performance by looking into the box through a red-rimmed window with a sliding door. The box shared the gallery with eight rubber plungers with reflective markers. I performed for four hours on the first day and two hours on the second day, drawing lines on and erasing the walls, respectively. On the first day I wore a green costume with a red oval painted on my stomach. I taped chalk to my index fingers to draw horizontal lines on the walls. On the second day I wore a white costume with a blue oval on my stomach. I wore socks on my hands to rub away the lines. On both days I was tethered to a shiny white weight on a pile of glittery black sand in the center of the box. At the end of the second day, I drew eyes in through the uneven spaces between the lines and wiped them shut. Two-day Performance Installation |
