No Title (Back), 1998

In No Title (Back), I walked backwards around the lip of a small crevass in the woods. I wore a hermaphroditic costume made out of three sand castle moulds, each of which contained a cone of red thread. The ends of the threads were attached to a mass of bright yellow fiber hung from trees above the crevass. By walking backwards, I secreted thread, wrapping the trunks of the trees that lined the top of the crevass. The area was marked with red yarn, round mirrors, and red bells. At the end of the performance I entered the crevass and lay down, placing one of the mirrors on my throat. An adjacent field contained a mound of earth with a mirror reflecting the sky surrounded by five reflective markers.
